For several years, experienced and engaged cyclists have looked forward to the challenge of Pierre Lavoie’s 1000 km trek from Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean to Montreal. A remarkable landmark event, the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie rallies all of Quebec around one vital goal: the health of our children.
Since 2012, we’ve chosen to invest in the Grand Défi, sharing in Pierre Lavoie’s dedication to get young people active, and encouraging them to embrace healthy lifestyles. Every year, we’ve become more and more involved in schools, and we’re proud to say that today we make a difference in the lives of about 5,000 students. Seeing them move and watching their eyes light up when we visit each sponsored school, we can certainly tell that it’s working.
For the Grand Défi’s 7th edition, our Alt Hotels/Cominar/LemayMichaud team is made up of five motivated cyclists and one driver, all determined to make a difference with every turn of the pedal. The team consists Jean-Yves and Hugo Germain, Michel Dallaire, Pierre Mierski, Marc Hébert and Sylvain Laroche. Their objective? To raise $100,000 for distribution among 15 elementary schools across Canada. Our goal is to share between $5,000 and $7,500 with each sponsored school. The money will go towards the purchase of sporting equipment (gymnastics equipment, outdoor games, bikes, climbing walls, cross country skis, snowshoes, fitness trails, obstacle courses, etc) that encourages the adoption of positive lifestyle choices in a way that’s fun, enjoyable and sustainable. We prioritize projects that show potential to endure for future generations of children.
Why do we do it? Because we believe that health is the cornerstone of society and the sooner we embrace healthy habits, the better our chance of developing a strong and healthy community. What could be more important than that? And through these beliefs, we hope to become ambassadors for the organization, helping the Grand Défi reach as many youths as possible. By inspiring wholesome habits in children, we firmly believe that they, in turn, will inspire their peers, and elevate the overall wellbeing of our society.
